Mom's Influence
We all love Mom, yes? With that in mind, and of course, with Mother's Day nearing, we thought it'd be a great time to give a big thank you to those lovely ladies who still influence their sons' choices in clothes. After all, it was Mom who determined what you wore for years (and probably, for some, she still makes those determinations – but that's another story for another day).
So let's take a look back at the 1950s and 1960s and what threads good ol' Mom opted for her little man.
The 1950s
The world was still recovering the war and tough economic times. This was that peaceful time in the world where peace attempted to settle in, but not for long; little did anyone know another war loomed just ahead in the 1960s. Still, this was the decade for denim. Little boys began wearing denim jeans to school and more fabrics were leaning towards the manmade variety. Short pants for the littlest fellows and plenty of plaid! Ties were out and baseball caps were in. Moms still knitted sweaters and cardigans until the end of the decade neared when Mom was buying the sweaters for her little man more often than she was making them. Canvas trainers were standard attire for kids of all ages. Oh, and did we mention the still-hot look courtesy of the Beatles? Gotta love those narrow ties!
The 1960s
The decade of freedom arrived with a colorful bang. Teen boys were either still dressing conservatively in their penny loafers, denim jeans and tucked in button downs or they were bucking the system by opting for the tye-dyed look, complete with sandals and what would soon become a global revolution: the bell bottom jeans! What do you suppose Mom preferred? She knew that before long, she'd have little to no say over what her little ball of sunshine would be donning.
So as Mother's Day nears and you pause to reflect on all those magical moments with Mom, don't forget to give her an extra special hug for instilling those great fashion tips that serve you well as an adult.
