making up knitting
When knitting, how to sew in place as u go along?
Im following a pettern for a bbay cardigan and im onto making up the button band, it tells me to continue in rib until band fits up front to start of neck shaping, sewing in place as u go along. How do i do the sewing in place part? does this mean i have to sew it with needle or thread, im confused. Please help, thanks.
You can join your band as you go without sewing. As you get to the last stitch on the band, pick up a stitch in the corresponding edge stitch of your sweater front by inserting your needle under it, wrapping the working yarn and bringing it through and then knitting these two stitches together. Alternatively, before you start knitting the band, with the public side facing you, pick up one stitch along the edge with a circular needle from top to bottom, cast on the number of stitches needed for the band, then knit your band stitches to the last band stitch with the other end of the needle and knit the last stitch together with the stitch on the front. You'll work back normally, knit in, k last stitch with the body stitch, up the front. The advantage to this is you will know exactly how many rows you have if you do the button band side first and can then divide these by the number of button holes you need to place them evenly for your buttons. BTW, when sewing on buttons put a small shirt button on the inside of the sweater and sew both the outside button and this button on together. The inside button helps keep the fabric from pulling out when the button is put through the holes.
