knitting squares for blankets
knitting idea?
i asked a question before and all people did was "suggest" i want to make a blanket for a baby how many stitches should they be and another question is how to make anythign other than rectangles and squares. i dont understand how to make them into anything else. please dont answer by saying it depends or suggesting anything i want to know the exact number of stitches to do for each side.
and help witht he other part of my question

and choose a blanket you like.
Read the directions. They will list:
- type of yarn to use (because yarns have different weights)
- the size of needle suggested for gauge
- number of stitches to cast on (because a baby blanket in huge yarn might only take 60 stitches, a king-sized blanket in fingering weight might need 12,000)
While you're there, please look at the variety of blanket sizes, patterns, yarns, and methods. You will see that there is no way for even the most experienced knitters to give you a blanket (pardon the pun) answer to your question.
As to shaping (making it anything other than square/ rectangle, that simply requires increasing/ decreasing. If you want to see how it works quickly and easily, there's an increase/ decrease sampler in Knitting for Dummies that walks you through the different methods and would be a good place to start.
While the process of doing increases/ decreases is easy (you simply add stitches, knit two stitches together, etc.) it gets pretty fancy when you see how they "lean" to one side or another. It's probably best to try your first inc/dec with a pattern so it comes out looking nice and makes some sort of sense to you.
