What is a way to make material and clothes but not knitting?
I want to try and make my own material, like with knitting, but I want to try something new. Any ideas of techniques I can use. Doesn't have to be with wool..
Weaving, crochet, lacemaking and naalbinding are all techniques for making fabrics.
Crochet is probably the quickest and easiest to learn, requires only a crochet needle and yarn (there are some gorgeous crochet cottons and novelty wool yars availible), and is very, very versatile. Crochet also builds up very quickly, with the result that it doesn't take as long to make a garment as it does with some other techniques.
Naalbinding requires only yarn and a tapestry needle, but isn't as widespread or as versatile as crochet. It does however make very warm socks, gloves, and hats, and has novelty factor.
Weaving can be done with any yarn you like, but does require a loom and quite a lot of yarn. A sturdy children's loom (check out toy stores and craft shops) is a good starting point for learning the technique without expending large amounts of money. Most people start by making scarves, then move on to larger projects. Fibrecrafts is a good source of equipment if you take up weaving. http://www.fibrecrafts.com/index.asp
Lacemaking can be done with bobbins, a needle, or vey fine crochet, and makes lovely decorative accents, but isn't really suitable for large areas.
