Sitting down to knit a new baby garment is a delightful thing to do, but first you need to have the right knitting yarns. Baby knitting really requires the softest, lightest of yarns so that the garment will not hurt or irritate baby's delicate skin. Besides, it is much more pleasant knitting with the softest of wools that slips through those needles easily. Most knitting wool suppliers do have good baby wool, but some do not, so you have to take care where you shop.
Years ago nearly all of baby's garments were knitted, right from vests and little knickers through to leggings, bootees, dresses, bonnets and matinee jackets. This kept all those doting nanas very busy clicking needles. However, today tiny babies are more likely to be dressed in blue jeans than knitted leggings. But there are still plenty of garments such as tiny jumpers, beanies and coats for the nanas to knit.
When it comes to hotter weather such as in Brisbane, cotton is an excellent choice for baby knitting.
